Accounting Internship Guidelines

The Accounting Internship (ACC399) course allows students to earn one credit by working in an accounting position, for a period of at least 4 weeks. Students are required to write a report about their daily activities. The report forms the basis of their supervision and evaluation by the instructor.

Course objectives: To gain hands-on experience in the accountancy profession (accounting, auditing or taxation) in order to integrate the acquired theoretical accounting knowledge with practical experience.

When can I register for the accounting internship?

Accounting students are encouraged to register for the course and do their internships upon attaining junior standing. The Accounting Internship is offered during the Summer Semester.

Where can the internship be done?

The accounting internship should be done in an accounting/accounting-related department of a well-known company. The company could be a national company, a branch of an international company or a non-national company. Students must get the approval of the ACC399 instructor on the company and the internship position, to ensure that they fulfill the course requirements.

How do I register for the ACC399 course?

  1. Secure an internship position in a well-known company*.
  2. Get the approval of the ACC399 instructor.
  3. Register after getting the approval of the instructor.

How is my internship evaluated?

  • Two written reports should be provided during the internship period, describing the tasks and responsibilities assigned and the practical knowledge gained on-job. 
  • A student evaluation form should be completed by the intern’s supervisor at the firm.
  • Prior training or internships will not be considered, as students should be enrolled in ACC399 and working under the supervision of the instructor during the internship period.
  • The internship course instructor evaluates and grades the student’s performance.

Reports to be submitted: 

  1. Interim report(halfway through the internship)
  2. Final report(the student evaluation of the internship experience)
