Institute for Human Resources
The Institute for Human Resources (IHR) at LAU serves as a vital link between business education and the business practice. It aims at involving students, academics, and executives in an exchange forum and an on-going dialogue that brings business reality into university life while at the same time it takes the university community into the full complexity of business practice. The IHR offers a perpetual platform where human synergy continually produces active learning, and a reality check against knowledge creation.
IHR philosophy
The HR function in Lebanon is actively keeping pace with business paradigm shift in global communities. It has become an essential part of organizational management. The HR role is defined in clearly distinct role dimensions. IHR aims to investigate and promote the reality interface of each of them. The five main HR roles are defined within the HR function as follows: a) employee advocacy; b) strategic partnering; c) change driving agency; d) administrative expertise; and e) globalized cultural diversity.
IHR objectives
Functional objectives of the Institute are inscribed within the mission of the School and the overall strategy of the University. They promote academic research, learning excellence as well as practice-based knowledge sharing. Leading business corporations, and family enterprises from the Middle East region and particularly from Lebanon, help shape the long term strategy of the IHR at LAU.
IHR strategy
The Human Resource Management (HRM) function holds a special place in the business programs of LAU at 3 different levels:
1- Prominence and high visibility of LAU programs within the local business community represent a strategic feature in the drive for excellence of higher education overall, and at LAU in particular.
2- MBA and EMBA programs at LAU are strongly focused on the HR function, and therefore they are closely linked to HRM professional excellence in various types of this function: strategic, administrative, and global change agency.
3- At the undergraduate level, HRM function provides the business community network that supports the senior summer internship that business students are required to complete before they graduate from LAU.
