Multidimensional Poverty Measurement: Methodology and Case Study Using the Global MPI 2018

The Department of Economics in collaboration with UNESCWA invites the community to a public lecture by Professor Sabina Alkire from the University of Oxford.

Professor Alkire directs the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), a research center within the Department of International Development, University of Oxford. Her research interests and publications include multidimensional poverty measurement and analysis, welfare economics, Amartya Sen’s capability approach, Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness index, and human development. She is also a Distinguished Research Affiliate of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame’s Kellogg School of Global Affairs. She holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of Oxford.

Her presentation will be concluded by a panel discussion on “The Conceptual and Policy Relevance of the Alkire-Foster Multidimensional Poverty Framework for the Arab Region” addressed by Dr. Khalid Abu-Ismail, Chief of Economic Development and Poverty Section at UNESCWA and Dr. Bilal Al-Kiswani, First Economic Affairs Officer at UNESCWA.
