A new competition for LAU business students was launched on Monday, February 15, 2016 – the Bankmed Online Trading Competition – giving students access to financial markets through the bank’s own online platform.

The competition, tailored to senior students who have a prominent interest in treasury and foreign exchange, is the first collaboration of its kind between Bankmed and a university – the program created by the bank’s Talent Management and Treasury divisions has been initiated this semester, Spring 2016.

Prior to launching the trading game, on Thursday, February 4, a team from both divisions, represented by Ms. Rola Ejjeh, head of talent management & training, and Mr. Ahmad Alwan, head of FX & treasury sales, gave a presentation at LAU AKSOB informing students about the bank, the divisions’ scope of work as well as the competition’s dynamics, trading platform and prizes.

In addition, training sessions by Mr. Wissam Moussa, section head online trading, were held afterwards, on two separate dates, to familiarize students with the platform and convey detailed information of how the trading would take place. In fact, each competitor would have an account allowing them to trade up to a certain amount of money, with all the extras of the real-time system.

The students will be assessed based on weekly results, and once the competition ends on March 15, 2016, the top five performers will be asked to present their experience in front of judges from LAU AKSOB and Bankmed Treasury. Prizes range from $500, for the fifth, to $3,500 for the first place winner who will also be granted an internship opportunity and a recommendation letter.
