Dr. Mohamad Karaki presented his research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland
Dr. Karaki presented his research titled “The Time-Varying Effects of Monetary Policy on Unemployment” at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland on October 13, 2023. While the Federal Reserve has predominantly focused on combating inflation by raising the policy interest rate, Dr. Karaki’s research suggests that such policies might increase unemployment, particularly long-term unemployment. Consequently, his findings call into question the feasibility of a soft landing after the series of rate hikes implemented since 2022.
