AKSOB Students Get a Closer Look at Taxation in Practice
The event connected students with industry experts and sparked a conversation about taxation and the career paths it offers.
Taxation moved from theory to practice for business students at the LAU Byblos campus on September 29 during Let’s Talk Tax: Understanding Lebanon’s Tax System and Career Opportunities, an industry-led event organized by the Department of Finance and Accounting at the Adnan Kassar School of Business, in collaboration with the Accounting Club.
Held at the Chagoury Health Sciences Auditorium, Let’s Talk Tax brought students together with Elie Farah, CPA, international tax senior manager at PwC Beirut, for a practical look at Lebanon’s tax system. Through real-world examples, Farah walked students through payroll taxes, corporate taxation, and value-added tax (VAT), connecting technical concepts to their workplace applications.
The conversation then extended beyond Lebanon to the GCC, where Farah discussed the region’s shift from a traditionally tax-free environment toward formal tax systems. Drawing on his experience advising businesses through this transition, he highlighted how the changing tax landscape is creating new demand for expertise and, with it, opportunities for young professionals.
Against this backdrop, taxation emerged as both a technical field and a growing career path. Students continued the conversation with an interactive Q&A, asking Farah about professional practice, taxation, and opportunities in the field.
