Lebanon’s Tourism Strategy in Focus

As part of the LAU Economic Policy Talk Series, the Department of Economics hosted Deputy Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Tourism Maurice Mattar on April 8, 2026, at the Byblos campus.

Mattar outlined the tourism sector’s role in the domestic economy, the main components of Lebanon’s tourism strategy and the steps needed to revive the sector and strengthen its performance.

The talk highlighted tourism’s potential to attract investment, create jobs and support stability, stressing the need for clearer policy direction and stronger coordination between public institutions and private-sector partners. It also addressed recent initiatives by the ministry, in collaboration with the private sector, to support displaced populations across several regions.
