LAU Students Excel in Community-Focused Project Management Initiative Amidst Adversity

In the pursuit of innovation and social responsibility during these challenging times, students from the MGT401 course at the Lebanese American University (LAU), Adnan Kassar School of Business (AKSOB) have elevated project management through a significant initiative titled “Hand in Hand to Save Lebanon,” organized by Assistant Professor of Management and Information Technology, Dr. Samar Aad. The initiative was designed to empower students to apply their project management expertise toward real-world challenges, emphasizing the creation of meaningful change within their community at this difficult time in Lebanon.

This exceptional initiative included coordinating a day of activities for displaced children at a school in Saida. The students successfully coordinated with various stakeholders, including sponsors and NGOs, demonstrating exceptional planning, communication, and teamwork. This project stood out as a testament to their ability to manage complex logistics and collaborate effectively with diverse partners. Most importantly, the event brought back smiles on the faces of children who had not experienced such joy in months due to displacement. “In this crisis, the laughter of children fills our hearts—their joy is a persistent spark of hope,” said a volunteer student.

Dr. Fahed-Sreih, Chairperson of the Management Studies Department and Associate Professor of Management, praised the students’ dedication, saying, “The remarkable aspect of learning is an asset no one can take away from you.” Dr. Fahed-Sreih spoke about the current circumstances students and families are going through and explained how a project of this nature can bring light to their lives as they get productively active and engaged in their community to service and support it. “You are acquiring fundamental project management skills while embracing the essence of contributing to your community and overcoming challenges. You cultivate self-belief and embrace the power within you to achieve and excel regardless of the obstacle,” she added. “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today,” said Dr. Fahed-Sreih.

Dr. Aad expressed immense pride in her students’ accomplishments. She stated that this project has demonstrated that with the appropriate support and guidance, students are capable of extraordinary outcomes even during challenging times. “Their commitment and perseverance to create a positive impact showcase their resilience and belief that we relentlessly strive to inspire all our students.”

This initiative exemplifies the dedication of the Lebanese American University (LAU) to fostering and promoting practical skills, leadership, and community involvement. It highlights the potential for academic learning to be transformed into tangible benefits that positively contribute to the well-being of society, reinforcing LAU’s role as a catalyst for change and growth in Lebanon.
